୭ Our Story ୭
Child of Society was born from the belief that we are all shaped by the world around us – ever evolving, learning, and growing.
We exist to celebrate and share the beauty of traditional Japanese and Sri Lankan garments and crafts, inviting them into everyday spaces beyond ceremonies, festivals, and tourism. Our goal is to shift the narrative so that non-Western attire is seen, valued, and respected on its own terms.
Through our work, we aim to educate and inspire. We hope to deepen the understanding of cultural garments and techniques, embracing the complexities and depth of knowledge they carry.
We draw inspiration from longstanding craft practices and bring them to life by replicating them in a thoughtful and contemporary way. We continue to explore a range of techniqes from natural dye methods rooted in centuries-old recipes to zero-waste designs that honour the spirit of tradition.
At the heart of Child of Society is care for people, place, and heritage. By learning, practicing, and innovating upon these techniques that have been practiced sustainably for hundreads of years, we strive to ensure that centuries-old knowledge and skills are preserved, celebrated, and passed down to future generations.
